London, October 20. Silver is quoted at 2s 6 jd. The English wheat market has an upward tendency, the Continental is firm, and the American shows a general advance. No. 2 American red winter wheat is quoted at 68| cents. At the tallow sales, 1700 casks were offered, of which 500 were sold. The market shows a fall of 3d. In rabbit skins there is a moderate supply. The market is active, and shows an advance of Id except for Tasmanian skins, which advanced £d. TheWaihi Grand Junction Gold Mining Company, with a capital of £45,000, is being floated. The prospectus includes 27,500 preference shares. Sixty casks of Adelaide wine, bearing the Government certificate, were rejected by Mr Young, the expert, as inferior. They were put up to auction and a few sold. The Burgundy brought Is to lls per gallon, and sound Muscat 2s 3d. Oct. 21. The Waihi Grand Junction is announced ; capital £140,000. Sydney, Oct. 21. Owing to the scarcity of wheat the price of flour has advanced 5s per ton and is now quoted at £8 15s. Oct. 22. The Government have secured the services of seven specialists in various industries, to act as a Board of Advice to the Government in their efforts to assist producers to develop trade with British and foreign markets. At the wool sales there is a markedly weaker tone for lower classes, which sold at fully lower. Best descriptions, however, have suffered little if any decline upon last week’s prices. Competition continues good. Adelaide, Oct. 22. The fear of a shortage in the South Australian and Victorian wheat crops is hardening the market, and sellers betray a strong disposition to hold, Sales are reported at 3s Id to 3s 3d in Adelaide, and 3s in the country.
