TEMUKA STOCK SALE
At the Temuka yards on Tuesday the attendance was not quite so good as usual. The entries in all classes included about 2000 sheep, 75 pigs, and 105 head cattle, mostly stores. Very little business was done, business being very slack, the dry weather and scarcity of grass no doubt accounting for it. The following prices were realised : Sheep—Fat, 12s to 15s; ewes, 10s to 12s; good forward stores, 12s to 14s; ewes and lambs, 9s Id ; hoggets, 8s to 13s. Pigs—Baconers, 20s; porkers, 6s to 9s. Cattle—Fat heifers realissd £5 10s.; one cow, very good, £6 12s 6d; milkers, £5 10s ; springers, £3 to £4 12s 6d ; dry cows, £3 to £3 10s; 18-months-old steers aud heifers, £2 10s; yearlings, £1 lis to £2 10s.
MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL,
London, September 29. At the wool sales yesterday a medium selection was offered. Competition was good and prices were unchanged. " Cheviot Hills" brought Bd. The total quantity of wool catalogued up td date is 67,400 bales, of which 66,400 have been sold. The Antwerp sales are fixed for 22ud October. Tallow, medium mutton, 235; beef, 225. The English wheat market shows a general advance of 6d ; the Continental and American are also advancing. The cargo of Victorian wheat«per ship William Mitchell has been sold at 23s 9d. Sept. 30. The steamer- Buteshire, from Queensland via Lyttelton, has arrived at Las Palmas. Twenty of her consigment of sheep died on the voyage. Biddings at the wool sales continue animated and the advance is maintained. Wheat has risen Is per quarter, but the market is weak. The Hull Municipal committee recommend the building of cold stores at an estimated cost of £40,000. Storage will be provided for 40,000 sheep and 300 cattle. Melbourne, Oct. 1. Tenders were opened to-day for the Metropolitan Board of Works 4 per cent. £600,000 loan with a currency of 18 years. The total amount offered was £1,631,000 from the minimum up to £lO5 10s; tenders were accepted at an average of £ll4 4s 7d. Sydney, Sept. 30. Owing to the drought it is anticipated that the season's wool clip will be 150,000 bales less than last season.
