GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

"1 he monthly meeting of the Geraldine Town Board was held on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs A. White (chairman), R. Taylor, G. Ward, J. Sutherland,' J. McOaskey, and J. W. Pye. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received and dealt with as under : Prom the Commissioner of Taxes re rates. From a ratepayer, asking the board to remit rate, being unable to pay same. — Granted. From several ratepayers, asking that the road in Water Street be mended.— Work to be done, and footpaths to be shingled where necessary in other parts of the town. From the police, drawing the board's attention to the manner in which carcases of horses and cattle are left in that portion of the riverbed used by the authorities of the town board as a burial ground. The police suggested that the carcases be buried or destroyed with quick-lime. The Inspector of Nuisances reported that he visited that part of the riverbed refen ed to by Ihe police and found three dead animals. He gave notice to the owners and the carcases had since been buried, hut he had also found other two dead animals, the owners of which, he believed, did not live at Geraldine. It was resloved :—" That when animals die in the township the owners of same must give notice to the board, so that the overseer can see that all carcases are properly buried." GATES. It was resolved to call for tenders for two folding gates for the board's yards. OVERBEEE'S report. The overseer's report on work done was read. ACCOUNTS. The accouuts amounting to £23 7s 5d were passed for payment. DRAINAGE. The board agreed to meet and inspect the sections at the back of the shops, near the Geraldine Hotel, in Talbot Street, and see what can be done in the way of draining those properties. The board then rose.
