THE HARPER CASE.

Wellington, Sept. 28. Leonard Harper was brought before the Court this morning, and formally remanded to Christchurch for 10.30 a.m. on Monday. Bail was allowed, himself in £SOO and two sureties in similar amounts. Mi J. C. Bowen aud Mr T. 0. Williams became bondsmen. Leonard Uarper left by to-night's boat for Lyttelton. Inspector Ponder was also a passenger. The warrants in Inspector Pouder's possession relate to eight separate charges of fraudulent converai m. In addition to tho charg > on which he was brought up today, namely, of the misappropriation of £ISOO entrusted to him by J. H. Holiin, Harper is charged with having converted to his own use £1751 entrusted to him by William Miles, Ellen Miles, and Eliza Hurst; £IOOO belonging to tVilliam S. Passmore; £IOOO of William M. Barnes' ; £750 of Mary Louisa Webber's, being part of a trust fund of £2OOO ; £3OOO of William Hothan's ; £272 of Thomas A. Hope's, being part of a trust of £2000; and £2250 of Hugh H. Gil) e it's, part < f a trust of £SOOO. UmusToiiUKCH Sept. 30. Leonard Harper was brought up before the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court this morning, aud remanded till Tuesday, October Bth. Bail was allowed, himself in £IOOO, and two sureties of £IOOO each. Mr B. J. ti. Harman aud Mr E. 0, Litter became bondsmen.
