London, July 28. The net Tory and Unionist gain in the election is 90 seats, equal to 180 votes on a division. Deducting Hie Liberal majority of 28 in the last Parliament, the now Government have a majority of 152 on a division.
Mr W. H. Tong, President of the Board of Agriculture, says that while the Government are unable to remove the farming depression, it is intended to lighten the burden of taxation by relieving real estate at the expense of personal property. Mr Chamberlain's letter attributes the Unionist victory entirely to the strong feeling against Homo Rule, and the prefcrenc for domestic and social rcfoiui'- to rovol uti o n ar y legis 1a t > o!;. The Irisil Oatliolic states that a highly honored clerical dignitary writes suggesting that a national convention should a; range to withdraw the Irish members from the Imperial Parliament, where their presence is little bolter than a mockery owing to the Unionist majority.
