Sydney, June 5. The debate on the financial resolutions was brought to an end by the closure at 12.30 p.m. Sir G. R, Dibbs’s amendment was negatived by 52 to 42, and the resolutions were carried by 55 to 36, In the Assembly the Premier moved a resolution imposing a land tax of Id in the £ with an additional £2O for every £IOO of such tax for absentees, and and an income tax of 6d in the £ with £3OO exemption. The land tax was carried by 50 to 25, and the income tax by 54 to 23, and the House adjourned after sitting thirty-one hours. The meeting of members of Parliament and other federationists called by Sir Henry Parkos, affirmed the necessity for immediately pressing forward federal on, A federal party was formed and a strong committee appointed to attain the object. Sir Henry Parkes vigorously denounced the Government policy as opposed to federation. June 6, The taxation proposals have passed the first stage. The debate will be concluded next Thursday.
