The annual meeting of the Temaka Floral and Horticultural Society was held last evening in the Social Hall. The The president, Mr Herbert, was in the ohair, and about fifteen members were present. After the minutes of the last annual meeting wero read and confirmed, the secretary read the report and balancesheet for the past year as follows : « To the Members of the Temuka Floral and Horticultural Society. J "Ladies and Gentlemen, — Your committee have great pleasure in presenting to you the irixth annual report of the transactions of the society, -ix committee meetings have been held during the year, the attendance being—J. There has been no change in the committee during the year. Members' subscriptions •re leas in amount than last year, although more members have joined the society than during the two preceding j ears. Special prizes show a larger amount than any previous year, but, owing to the unfavorable weather on the day of the show, the cash taken at the door was a trifle less than last year. Had it been a fine day there was every prospect of its being one of the largest shows yet held, there being 119 exhibitors and 721 exhibits—both in excess of previous years. Taking into consideration the very dry season, there was a very good display of fruit and flowers. Pot plants were better than last year, and vegetables, as usual, were in both classes largely represented. Class D proved quite an attractive part of the show. There was great competition in the oookery section, as many as 30 entries Ming made for Mrs Rhodes's prize for best home-made loaf. The prize Schedule numbered 227 exhibits, as Hgaiust 216 the previous year, nearly all tm which were well contested. The principal prize-takers were Messrs H. T. Clinch, J. Norton, J. Dow, and G. J. Sealey. The committee have to thank for their services the various judges— Messrs Crook and Langden (fruit and vegetables), Messrs Mair and Harney (flowers), Mr Budd (cookery), Mr J. Wood (maps and drawing), Messrs McCallum and Bowman (butter and bacon), Mesdames Harrison and Marshall (needlework, &c.). They also desire to thank Mrs Tombs and Miss Quinn for valuable services as class stewards. The committee wish to record their beat thanks to the douors of special prizes, and trust that the results of the show have justified a continuance of the donations. In conclusion we hope that . the Temaka Floral and Horticultural Society may have a still more prosperous future. " Signed on behalf of the committee, «* E. Herbert, President " The balance-sheet showed the total receipts to have been £7613s lid, and the total expenditure £76 10s lid, leaving a credit balance of 3s.
