TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this board was held in the board's office last evening. Present—Messrs G. J. Mason (chairman), Scannell, and Comer. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : From Mr Arthur Hutt, asking his name to be taken off the roll in respect to section 260 Temuka, and the name of of Mrs Frances Gertude Farley substituted. From Mrs Farley agreeing to the substitution. —The clerk had attended to same. From Mr A. W. Wright, re rates summonsed for by the board, and enclosing post-office order for same. From Geraldiue County Council, re new roll, stating that the board had to give notice to the council if they wanted a copy.—The clerk explained that under the new Act the boards had to forward an order for a rate roll if one was wanted. The clerk of the county council was having one done for the board. From A. W. Wright, enclosing a postoffice order for Mrs Rowe's rates due. overseer's report.

The overseer's report was read as follows: " The Chairman aad Committee, Gentlemen, —In accordance with instructions received at April meeting, 1 took the earliest opportunity to have the necessary work applied for by Mr J. W. Kadford, fronting his premises in Wilrnshurst road, carried out. The footpath and approach to culvert over watertable were raised to necessaiy levels, and topped with suitable gravel aud coarser shingle, making a satisfactory and permanent job. I made an appointment with the contractor (Mr Curry) who had cleaned out the main drain to thrown back any scour landed too near tho edge of same. I accompanied him, and he throw all back which I directed, as it had become solid, aud was more easily disposed of. A large amount of material, grassed over, tho nccumnmlations of many yours, requires to be levelled, or otherwise disposed of, especially in some placos where the trampling of cat lie is continued. The chairman stated that Mr Beri had spoken to him on the subject of the lock and gate, and he advised him to have a lock on with two keys.—The clerk stated he had not done so.—The clerk was authorised to ask him again for it, or put a lock on with two keys. Be the crossings complained of by the overseer, it was resolved to ask the owners to renew their crsssings. rents and bates. The chairman stated that there were some back rents unpaid, and it was resolved that the defaulters be given 14 days to pay them, or be sued for the recovery of same. It was also resolved that the balance of rates due be sued for. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £2B Is 9d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
