A rather unusual case was heard al Waipawa last week. It appears that a lad of 12 years named Charles Rose, attending Waipawa school, was ordered out for punishment by tho assistant master, Mr t). M'Lennan, for reraisness in hitlessons. The boy refused to hold out his hand, and the master struck -him upon tho body with a strap, whereupon the delinquent drew out his pocket-knife and dared'hia superior to repeat the blow, at the name time making a menacing gestuse with tho knife gripped in his hand. Tho lad bore a bad character at school, being ’<on disposition, and repeatedly referred to his master t.y h» Christian name.
