BROOM ON RESERVES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Mr Pilbrow’s letter in Saturday’s issue is certainly not a good example of veracity (of which he says he has a large working capital), as not only arethestatemeuthe makes of havinginterviewed mo untrue, but he cannot even quote correctly from my letter. The fact of it is, Mr Filbrow knows about as much how the broom spread over my section as he did how the water collected on the section next to Mrs John Hayhurst’s. When I was agent for Mr Hewlings’, owner of the section, I received notice from Mr E. Pilbrow that he would serve me with a summons if I did not abate the nuisance caused by lain water collecting thereon. On searching for the cause, I found that a pipe draiu was laid under the footpath in Dyson street, and that the side channel was well cleaned down to the entrance of the drain, so that all the rain water up to the Railway Terrace was led on to the section, which Mr Pilbrow, as Overseer to the Board, ought to have known. I spoke to him about it, and instead of apologising for his mistake like a man he abused me in a most vituperative way. His ignorance in that instance is about equal to that exhibited by him at the present time, lu my letter I did not question Mr Pilbrow’s integrity, which 1 believe to be undoubted, but his veracity I think is weak, and he might as well get rid of the bitter abuse which is a large portion of his working capital, as other ratepayers than myself can testify. — I am, etc., E. C. Danh.
