PRESBYTERIAN GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
Auckland., Feb. 18. At the Presbyterian Assembly, in the report on religious morals, reference was made to the small proportion of young people coming into church fellowship, the decline of family worship, the lack of aggressive work, and to the lapsing of children and adults from attendance at religious ordinances. Pleasure was expressed at the progress of Christian endeavor, and there was strong condemnation of the growth of gambling, social impurity, and intemperance The Church was urged to do it can to check these evils. The committee submitted that the Kirk Sessions should confer on the duty of parents and the Church to children recognised by infant baptism as members, with a view to their being trained in the nurture of the Lord; that ministers preach on this subject; that the presbyteries and Kirk Sessions confer on the duty of the Church towards the lapsed in their midst; that the committee be enjoined to continue the negotiation opened up with sister churches with regard to united action against the present day evils on the lines indicated in the report. The report was adopted. At the Presbyterian A ssembly, the report on religion and morals was adopted, with a clause to the effect that if a new Divorce Bill be reintroduced next session of Parliament, the committee be instructed to petition against an alteration in the present divorce law.
