The officers of the Surrey Club deny that overtures are being made to Iredale, the New South Wales cricketer, to secure his services for their club.

The wicket was in good order to-day for the continuation of the match between England and a combined eleven of New South Wales and Queensland. The innings closed for 279, the tail being quickly disposed of. Rain fell last night, and though it cleared up to-day, the wicket was sticky and bumpy, and the |bowlere, especially Richardson, had it all their own way. The innings of the combined team closed for 86. The Englishmen won by 238 runs. The scores were as follow :

The weather was fine to- day and the wicket fair, bnt somewhat sticky. The innings of the South Australians closed at 245 in a rather peculiar way. A ball from Trumble bounced into Jones’s breast pocket and that player becoming confused threw it out, and was given out for handling the ball, Trott and Bruce hit off the number required to win in a few minutes, £.nd Victoria consequently won by ten wickets. As the games now stand Victoria will win the shield unless the southerners beat New South Wales, in which case there will be a tie. The scores are as follows : South Australia. —2nd Innings.

FIJI V. HAWKE’S BAY.

The Fiji cricketers commenced a match against Hawke’s Bay to-day. The weather was perfect. The visitors went to the wickets first and made 187. Hawke’s Bay only put together 92.

The Temuka and Timaru B teams will play a match in Victoria Park, Temuka this afternoon. Play begins at 2.15 p.m. A rather novel cricket match was played in Nelson on Tuesday, when a team of the members of the General Synod, consisting of one Bishop, two archdeacons, one dean one canon, three clergy, and three laymen, played a team of boys from the Melanesian mission vessel.
