CRICKET.

Sydney, Jan. 28. The weather was again wet to-day and the wicket was thoroughly sodden. After several interruptions play was finally stopped, New South Wales having then lost five wickets for 242; Don nan 40, Gregory (not out) 52, Callaway (not out) 18. Jan 29. The weather was fine to day, but the wicket was spoiled by the raiu which fell during the night, and there was no play till 3 p.m. The first innings of New South Wales concluded for 274. The Victorians began their second innings, and had secured 16 without the loss of a wicket when the stumps were drawn. Christchurch, Jan 28. At a meeting of the cricket council to-night, it was resolved that the North Island v. South Island match be played at Christchurch on March Ist, 2nd, and 4th. The following will play for the United against Temuka at Timaru to-day:— Macintosh, Stoddart, Pocknall, Grey, Boys (2), Lightbaud, Cobdeu, Rapsey, Anderson, and Helean. Emergencies— Brown, and Powell. Temuka—Hayhurst, Gillespie, Anderson, Dann, Velvin, Don McCaskill, Edwards, Heap, Hayes, and two others. The following will play to-day for the Timaru B. v. Geraldine :—Balfour, Bourn, Chafi'ey, Chisholm, Cox, Hall, D. LeOren, E. LeCren, Malcolmson, O’Callaghan, Perry, Rice, Thomas, Turnbull, and Wood. This match will be played at Temuka.
