CRICKET.
A match was played in the Temuka Park on Thursday afternoon between sides captained by J. McCaskill and J. Gillespie. Notwithstanding the rain, a goodly number of players put in an appearance, and a most enjoyable game eventuated. McCaskill’s side batted first, and opened badly, Gillespie bowling three in his first over. Harnill and E. Brown, however, put on a good few runs, and the innings closed for 49. 0. Brown got 2 wickets for 19, McLean 2 for 1, and Giilespie 8 for 25. Gillespie’s side then went in, and rattled up 80, to which total Heap, by sterling cricket, contributed 20, Holwell 17, and Gillespie a like number, Yelvin got 3 wickets for 25, Wills 1 for 21, Brosnahan 3 for 18, and J.
