PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH CHOIR.
The entertainment given by the above choir in the Temuka Presbyterian Church bit Thursday evening was very poorly attended. We were surprised at this, as the Presbyterians as a general rule are very good for attending their own church functions, but for some reason they seem to have completely boycotted this entertainment and were conspicuous by their absence. This was a matter for regret, as the choir went to a great deal of trouble in getting up a good concert, and it must have been very disheartening to them to see themselves bo poorly *pJ>reciated. The programme was as folows:—Opening Hymn, "Come let ub '■- join our cheerful songs " ; anthem, " O Love the Lord" (SiiUivan), choir; anthem," O Saviour of the World" (Goss), choir; solo, "The Word of Promise," (Fawcett), Mr Jfi. Whitehead; anthem, «Arise, Shine for Thy Light is Come" (Elvey), choir; solo, "I Know that My Redeemer Liveth" {Handel), Mis*- A. Taylor; chorus,"Let all the Angels of God" (Handel), choir; chorus, "How ■•• Lovely are the Messongers" (Mendelsohn), choir; anthem, "O Zion that Bringest Good Tidingß" (Siainer), choir; sanctus, u Therefore with Angels" (Novello), choir; chorus, "Hallelujah" (Handel), choir; duet, "On Bethel's Plain (Fawcett), Misses Taylor and M. Smith; trio, "Voices and Visions " (Fawcett), Misses Eva Goodey and A. Taylor and Mr E. Whitehead; quartette," Let us now go " (Fawcett), Misses May Goodey and M. Smith, and Messrs A. Boulter and E. Whitehead ; quartette, " The Eastern Magi" (Fawcett), Misses Taylor and M. Smith, and Messrs A. Boulter and E. -Whitehead; solo, "He was Despised" (Handel), Miss M. Smith; chorus,"He Trusted in God" (Handel), choir; anthem, "Hceanna in the Highest" (Stainer), choir; solo, "Bat Thou Didst not Leave" (Handel), Miss May Goodey; chorus," Lift Up Your Heads " (Handel), choir; anthem,"TheHomeland" (Sullivan), ohoix. Mr Proudlock, the organist, deserves great praise for the excellent manner in which he had trained his choir. They sang very well, and those who absented themselves have every reason to regret it, for they missed an excellent musical evening. The chair was occupied • by Mr McCully, who at the close of the entertainment received a hearty vote of thanks on the, motion of Mr Proudlock. Mr McCully briefly acknowledged the ecimpUtnent, and wound up the entertainment by pronouncing the benediction. It is, of course, no business of ours whether such entertainments shall or shall not be well attended, but at the same time we may say that it is not at all creditable to the Presbyterians to allow their church to look empty on such occasions. Their choir deserves more consideration at their hands. The entertainment was not given for the private benefit of members of the choir, but for the benefit of the church as a whole, and consequently was deserving of better patronage. ,
