ST. JOSEPH’S SCHOOL CONCERT.
The concert this year was one of the beat, if not the best, ever siren by the children attending the school, and the audience was one of the largest. The hall was crowded to excess, and some people were unable to gain admittance. The programme was excellent, and was not over until about 11.15, but no one seemed to tire of it. The programme, as will be seen by reference to the above, was a long and varied one, and it was gone through in a manner that reflected great credit on both teachers and pupils. Indeed, some of the singing and acting would have done credit to adults. Considering that the performers were nearly all children, and that each and all did well, it would be invidious to select a few for special praise, Several of the items were encored, but as the programme was too loug no encore was responded to. Amongst those who met with the most enthusiastic re- 1 ception were Miss Connolly for her singing of « The Holy City,” Miss Bourke for «We’d Better Bide a Wee,” and Master Polaschek for several songs and good acting. The pieces were very interesting, and kept the audience in good humor throughout. The singing was unusually good, and too much could not be said in praise of the way the children were dressed. Some of the dresses, were handsome, and all of them very appropriate to the characters intended to be represented. Several pianoforte pieces were played splendidly by the children, who gave evidence of the excellent training they had received, and on the whole the entertainment was one of the best, of the kind we have seen. The accompaniments were played by the Misses Quinn in the very satisfactory manner for which they are so well known.
