ACCIDENTS, OFFENCES, ETC.
The body of au old man has been found in the Mangapai river at Auckland. His name is unknown. At Wellington Richard Henry Burgess, aged about 40, a labourer employed by the City Corporation, was found drowned in the harbour on Friday morning. Deceased was summoned to appear at the Magistrates Court for assaulting his wife, with whom he had lived unhappily since he made some property over to her. Baieserbe, an Italian fisherman living at Paramatta, Wellington, is believed to be drowned. He was following his occupation on Saturday, and at night his boat and two dogs which he had with him were found on the rocks. There were no signs of the body. The police are searching Porirua harbour. Thomas Hunter, a labouring man residing at Ashbourne, uear Christchorchj dropped dead at Amberley on Thursday., Au accident occurred on Friday at the Progress Company's battery, at Reefton. The manager, G. Black, and six others, were engaged in repairing the rope of the aerial tram, and while pulling on the rope to bring round the full buckets, the rope parted from the terminal carriage. The latter ruehed up the incliue, crrrying everything with it. Black and A. Pearce were thrown violently down a slppe among broken metal, etc. The former sustained a severe scalp wound and bruises on the leg and body; the latter was injured on the right side, and has a deep wound on the head and a dislocated finger. Another man named Patterson has also nasty cuts. The accident will interfere with the work for some days. Mrs Parker, wife of a Kyeburn miner, Otago, committed suicide by cutting her throat on Thursday. Johu McLaren, of Lawrenoe, Otago, an expressman, was found dead in Wetterstone's Creek on Saturday morning. It is thought he was seized with an apoplectic fit and fell into the water and was drowned.
