THE CHRISTCHURCH SHOW.

ChrislcSurcH, November 8. The annual exhibition of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association opened at the grounds at Addington this morning. The weather was beautifully fine. Taken altogether the show will compare favourably with any previous year. There is a grand collection of sheep, English Leicester's being the strongest class, while the Border Leicesters, Lincolns, Merinos, fat sheep, and other classes are well represented. There is a fair show of cattle, especially Jerseys, Ayrshires and Shorthorns. A special feature are Mr G. H. Rhodes’ Highland cattle. There is a medium entry of draught horses, but the quality is good. There is a splendid exhibition of implements and New Zealand manufactures. Mr C. Ensor, North Canterbury, gained the medal for merino (fine combing) ram ; and Mallock & Lance the medal for ewe. A. A. McMaster, Oamaru, swept the board in strong combing merinos. In Border Leicesters the Hon. M. Holmes, Oamaru, and Little Bros., Ngapara, were the chief prize takers ; and in Downs, J. Dean won all before him. The latter also took the bulk of the prizes for Shorthorns in the open class. J. Boag’s Middlerig was lirst in draught entires. November 9. There was a largo attendance at the second day of the Canterbury show, though the number fell a good deal short of that of last year’s total. At the luncheon the Governor and the Hon. Mr Seddon proposed toasts. The light horse section which was judged to-day was deprived of a great deal of interest through luck of competition in the blood stock, heavy weight and carriage lior os. and in the entries fra number of special piiz.*s. 'Die haikney stall) >r,s, were a ream kably fine lot. and the dog cart hors )S were alto good. Fonie< wore really a feature of the show. Thu jump ing was only fair.
