A rise in the finest factory-made by 4s per cwt. is expected as compared with the prices realised this time last year. The import of butter into Great Britain during October increased to 1050 tons. Two-thirds of the shipment of eggs by the steamer Ballarat were broken. The remainder arrived in good condition, but the consignment was unsaleable owing to the breakages. It is thought the eggs should not be frozen as the frost causes the shell to break. November 10. A trust of £1,500,000 is being established to take over the balance of Barings’ estate. Berlin, November 8. Germany has agreed to await the decision of experts as to the danger of introducing disease before finally prohibiting the importation of cattle from the United States. Vienna, November 10. The Minister of Agriculture declines to reduce the duty on Australian moat. Sydney, November 9. During the week 28,000 bales of wool were offered and 24,000 sold. Prices show no improvement, the highest for greasy being 7£d per lb, and for scoured ll£d. Melbourne, November 9. The Dairymen’s Association carried resolutions strongly condemning the Loudon butter committee fixing the price of butter to arrive, characterising such action as that of a ring of dealers. The association recommended the factories in the colonies not to send their butter through local agents representing London firms.
