At Adelaide the Englishmen declared the innings closed when their score stood at 308. The Gawler team had lost 8 wickets for 58 when stumps were drawn for the day on Saturday. Evans 20, Plush 20, were the highest scorers. On Monday ihe lirst innings of the Gawler team closed for 153, and in the second essay they have lost 5 wickets for 22. The first interprovincial match botween Canterbury and Southland was played at Lancaster Park, Christchuroh, on Monday. 'Clio wicket waa rather soft iu the morning, but improved as the day wore ou. Owing priucipaliy to the fine bowling of Robertson and Wru, and good batting by North and Fowke, Canterbury won easily by an innings and 81 runs. The scares were— Southland, first innings, 34 (A. Brown 12); and second innings 50 (B.owu 18;. Canterbury, 105 (.N'orth 70, Fowke 34. Uru 14).
