The overseer, in his report, stated that he had, as instructed, communicated with the police in the matter of cattle straying on roads, etc., and it had had a beneficial effect, but still there were some offenders. Rain had settled the clay placed on repairs in Vine street, and he found more would be required to raise the water-way near Dr Hayes', which had been carried out. The licensee of the Temuka Hotel had caused the nuisance complained of to flow into an exhaust pipe. A complaint had been received of a nuisance issuing from main drain crossing in High street, and he had in a manner had this seen to, but more required doing. Before a man could get to do the work necessary in Vine street, the fence would require cutting. Another fence also required Beeing to. It was decided to take no further steps in the matter of the main drain crossing. With regard to fences encroaching on streets, it was resolved to notify the holders of properties where the nuisance exists to have same removed, or the board would have the necessary work done, and charge them with it. DEPUTATION. Captain Henry and Lieut. McSheeby Gentlemun waited on the board as a deputation from the Temuka Fire Brigade, to discuss matters connected with the brigade. Captain Henry explained that the brigade wished to have a proper understanding as to their position with the town board. They could not estimate their annual expenses as they could not tell what expenses, would be required for fire purposes. The £25 granted annually would not be sufficient to cover the outlay of the brigade for hose, etc. He was in favour of the brigade laying an annual balance-sheet before the board, so that the board would know how their money was expended. He thought there would be no more hose needed for 12 months. The brigade did not wish to expend more of the ratepayers' money thau was necessary. On several years the £25 granted by the board was not drawn. Captain Henry mentioned that donations given to the board were independent of any expenses incurred by the brigade. ■ The treasurer (Mr McS. Gentlemun) then submitted the fire brigade's balancesheets for 1892 and 1893 for perusal of the board. After a long discission it was resolved to grant the fire brigade £25 annually, bear the expenses incurred by fire, and pay for hose, etc. MISCELLANEOUS. After some discussion re the proposed new fire bell station, in the north end of the town, the site decided on was the board's reserve, and it was decided that the fire brigade ascertain the cost of a bell and stand, and submit same to next meeting of the board. The chairman said, as decided at last meeting, he had inspected the fence Mr Angland had erected across Fraser street, and he was of opinion that it was not in the way, but he advised Mr Angland to alter the fence slightly.—The chairman's action was approved. The chaix- nan said he wished to bring a certain matter before the board. It was his opinion that the Fire Insurance Association should contribute something towards defraying the expenses of fires. He thought it advisable to approach the association on the subject. —On the motion of Mr Scaunell, seconded by Mr Comer, it was resolved to send a list of properties saved by the fire brigade to the Fire Insurance Association and ask for contributions towards defraying expenses of fires. A long discussion took place on the subject of footpaths which had been damaged through fires, and also some requiring top-dreasiug. Ultimately the overseer was instructed to inspect the work necessary to be done, and submit estimate of cost at a special meeting to be held that night week. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £53 lis lOd were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
