AN ENQUIRY.

We are reminded by the fact that this is the show season, of the time when the Temnka and Geraldine Agricultural and Pastoral Association had an existence, and held shows. That was a long time ago certainly, but there is still a piece of land on the road to Winchester which was resorted for a show ground, and it appears to us it is time the public knew something about what is being done with it. Many years ago it was let at a very good rental, and if the money has been accumulating ever since, as we have no doubt it has, we should think it ought now to be sufficient to enable a local show to be held. It is true that the show perished for lack of support, but if the money is lying in the bank, as it must be, it ought to be utilised, and if there is not sufficient to give good prizes, we believe that competitors would be forthcoming. At any rate, a meeting should be held, and some account given of what is being done with the rent accruing from the land. We do not know who the trustees are —some of them are, we believe dead—but it is only right that the public should know something about the matter, and for this reason a meeting should be held. We feel sure that the trustees, whoever they are, need only to be reminded of this, and that the meeting will be called before long, when we hope the prospect of holding a show in this district will be taken into consideration.
