TEMUKA TROTTING CLUB.
A general meeting of members and intending members of the Temuka Trotting Club was held in the Star Hotel on Tuesday evening last. There was a good attendance. Mr J. Angland was voted to the chair, and stated that already 66 reliable members had been obtained. This he considered a very good beginning. They had all seen the programme which had been drawn up. If anyone had any suggestion by which it could be improved it would be acceptable. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows: Secretary, Mr J. Quinn; treasurer, Mr C. Story; president, Dr Hayes; vicepresidents, Messrs Guinness and D. Henry; judge, Mr A. M. Clark; handicapper, Mr Dowse; starter, Mr 0. Story; timekeeper, Mr Jenkins; clerk of the scales, Mr J. Patrick; clerk of the course, Mr J. Moynihan ; stewards, Messrs Armitage, Scannell, T. Rooney, Rothwell, Jenkins, Angland, Gibson, Mcßratney, Gregory, Anderson, and Nicholas; delegate, Mr J. Angland. PROGRAMME. The events to constitute the programme were next discussed, the following being submitted:—District Handicap, of 15 Bovs., miles; Open Handicap, of 25 sovs., 2 miles; Selling Handicap (open), of 15 sovs., IJr miles ; District Handicap, of 20 sovs., 2 miles; Farmers’ Trot, of 10 sovs., 1J miles; Open Handicap, of 20 sovs., 2 miles; Consolation Handicap (for beaten horses) of 15 sovs., 1| miles. Some. discussion took place as. to the advisability of including a Three-Mile Trot in the programme, but ultimately it was decided to adhere to a distance of 2 miles, as the majority were of opinion that the shorter race would .elicit the most entries. . A long conversational discussion was evoked on the question as to what horses were eligible to compete in the Farmers’ Trot. Mr Scannell thought this should be a race exclusively for farmers in the County of Geraldine. The horses owned by their sons and farm hands would also compete, and he moved a resolution to that effect, which was seconded by Mr Jenkins pro forma. Mr Gibson moved as an amendment that any horse which had never won public money before the meeting should be eligible to compete; the horse to be two months in the County of Geraldine prior to the meeting. This was seconded by Mr Patrick and carried. The programme was then adopted. It was decided to have the programme printed, and that the secretary forward the usual copies to the New Zealand Trotting Association for their approval. DATES OF NOMINATIONS, BTC. It was resolved to close nominations at 9 o’clock on November 24th, and that handicaps be declared on December Ist; acceptances to be in by 9 o’clock on December Bth. The date for the Trot Meeting was fixed for December 17. GROUND COMMITTEE. It was suggested that a ground committee should be appointed at once, in order to have the ground measured and pegged out and other necessary things done. Messrs Story, Angland, Scannell, Quinn, and Jenkins were elected to the office. This being all the business, a vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting. .
