TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The regular monthly meeting of this committee was held on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs A. Russell (chairman), M. Scannell, D. Taylor, C. Bates, G. Levens, G. Davey, J. W. Miles, T. F. Hooper, and J. Grant. APPLICATIONS FOB FOURTH TEAOHCB. Seven applications were received for the post of fonrth teacher, five being classed £4 and D 4, and one uncertificated. The various applications with accompanying testimonials were read andcarefuily considered, and it was resolved by one vote that Miss G. Brown b* recommended for the appointment, and on the motion of Mr Levens it was resolved unanimously to recommend Miss Campbell as the alternative selection. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows From Mr T. B. Strong, applying lor four days’ leave of absence to attend college examinations. He wto prepared to find a substitute for the time being. The head master recommended that the leave be granted.—The committee were pleased to accede to the request. From the Education Board, under date October 3rd, stating that the Temnka School Committee would be granted the sum of £2 10s to carry out necessary repairs on their forwarding to the office vouchers showing that this sum had not been expended in works carried out previous to this date. From the same, notifying that Miss Fyfe had been appointed locum tenens till the appointment of a fourth teacher. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The head master’s report was a follows : “ Sir, The average attendance for quarter ending September was Boys 166.4, girls 128.2, total 293.6; roll number—boys 188, girls 147, total 335. There has been a good deal of sickness prevalent for some time, chiefly mumps, and thia has been, and is, the cause of our somewhat poor attendance. Miss Brnoo left ou Friday, 6th October, and Miss Fyfe began her duties as locum tenens on Thursday, 13th October. Miss McLeod, third-year pupil teacher, is uow absent " through illness. 1 have received a medical certificate from her which recommends that ten days’ leave cf absence from 11th inst. be granted. There are still one or two cases of irregular attendee, regarding whom special vigilance has to be used. I herewith forward the ' sum of £2 13a 3d, stationery money for last quarter.—l have, etc., «D. Ferguson, M.A., “ Head Master.’ 7 VISITORS. Mr Levens, on behalf of himself and Mr Grant, reported visiting (he school. The macrocarpa fence lately planted appeared to require watering. He understood the boys had attended to this. School work seemed to be progressing favorably. There was a shortage of water to supply the lavatories, and a pane of glass had been broken. It was decided that the pane of glass bo put in as required. Messrs Grant and Hooper were appointed visitors for the month. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £2 10s were passed for payment.
