CRICKET.

The Geraldine Cricket Club opened their season on Thursday afternoon last, when there was a good muster of players as well as a fair attendance < f the public The match was a scratch one, the aide* being chosen on the ground by Mr A. S. Sugden and Mr B. R. Macdonald, the result being that the former's side won by three runs. The ladies provided afternoon tea on the grounds, and taken all round the match was au interesting one for the opening of the season. The scores are as follow: —Mr Sugden's side: R. Wilson Smith, b Fish, 14; Sugden, run out, b Moore, 18; Kalaugher, c Fish, b Macdonald, 4; Hodges, not out, 1; extras, 3; total 66. Mr Macdonald's side: F. Fish, b Morrison, 0; W. K. Macdonald, not oat, 23; G. Bethune, b Morrison, 4; Flatman, b Morrison, 3; Loach, b Kalaugher, 1; O. Moore, c Kalaugher, 0; Boughton, o Bethune, 0; H. Moore, b Kalaugher, 9; B. R. Macdonald, run out, 3; Crater, b Nalder, 12; Beckley, c Erskine, b Morrison, 4; extras, 3; total 62.

The Timaru team did not come up to play against Temuka on Thursday, and a match between teams selected by Messrs Dann and Low was played instead. Dann's team : Ist innings 25 runs (Hayes 6); 2nd innings, 40 runs (Brew nahan 19). Gillespie, Will*, and Low all bowled. Low's team: Ist innings, 77 rnnß (Gillespie 27, Ferguson 20, Harrison 12). Velvin and Hawkes both did well with the ball. Gillespie played the best game on the ground, going in first and being the last man out. - Several players fielded well, but the others want to practice more and brisk up a bit. A club match will be played next Thursday, a fall attendance of players being requested.
