LABOUR, ETC.
Paris, Oct. 6. The International Conference of railway servants sitting here has resolved in favor of 48 hours per week.
Sydney, Oct. 5. Several printing firms have agreed to the men’s compromise. Regulations regarding lead poisoning have been presented to the Legislative Assembly. They are the first of the kind issued in Australia, and prohibit women and boys, under 14 years of age, working in lead mines. Provision is also made for the proper ventilation of mines, for a good supply of and other sanitary measures in connection with such works. Oct. 6.
About 150 printers have gone out on strike against a reduction of £2 12s per week. Many unionists, however, have accepted the terms of the masters, notwithstanding the decision of the Union.
