CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were received from Hr Flatman giving information obtained from the Land Department, re certain sections on which gone was allowed to grow. Mr Shiers said he had all the information already. Thomas Tobin was returned as registered owner of one of the sections, but he was killed in an accident nearly 30 years ago. Mr Metcalf said something must be done, whether they found an owner or not. The gone was dosing np the road. It was necessary to dear the road at any rate. From Mr D. McLeod, offering 2s 6d per acre for the shingle reserve at Orari Bridge.—Mr Shiers said he had no doubt there would be many after it at once. It was five acres, and all the other reserves were let for £l. Mr McLeod was a big mistake. There was not the tenth of an acre of a hole in it, and it was very good sheep land. It was decided that the board could not accept less than £1 for the 6 acres.

From Mr Carver, asking the board for time to pay his rent. He had lost a horse while he was sick, and the one he got to replace it was no good. It used to stick him up on occasions.—lt was decided that he must pay up by next board day. From Messrs Burke and Earle, asking for some road formation to be done near McKenzie’s farm.—Agreed tp.

From Mr H. Woodley, stating that the gorse was spreading from sections 30, 40, 41, and reserve 349 on the Rangitata Station road.

Mr Metcalf said a man in two or three days could do the work.

Mr Shiers explained that Mr Woodley had the use of two reserves, one of s,and the other of 8 acres. He asked Mr Woodley would he clear the gone for the use of the reserves, but he said he woold not, but once cleared he would keep it clear.

Mr Deßenzy thought in consideration of the use of 13 acres of land Mr Woodley ought to clear the gone.—lt was decided that Mr Shiers should see Mr Woodley and try to arrange .with him.

From Mr T. U. Taylor, Orari, calling attention to the road to the top of Macdonald’s plantation, and asking it to be formed and metalled for 60 or 70 chain*, —-It was decided to form the wont portion of the road.

From Mr J. Harrison, asking leave to fence road at Cooper street, Orari.— Granted, rent to be paid in advance. From Mr L. Pierce, asking permission to fence in a road in Orari. —Mr Shiers to explain what the board will do. Bent to be paid in advance. Mr E. O’Conner applied for the forma* tion of a road at Orari.—Granted.

Mr Brophy asked was there enough thirds to pay for it. Mr Shiers thought so. Mr Brophy in that case said it ought to be done on the co-operative system. Mr Deßenzy; I think so too. From Mr Marohant, Commissioner of Grown Lands, thanking the board for letter covering information relative to co-operative works. OOBSB. A conversation took place with regard to gorse clearing, and Mr Shiers said that a great many hail cleared a great deal of it, but there was much to be done yet. It was resolved—“ That Messrs W. Q. Studbolme, Sullivan, Clark, McCormao-, Lewis, J. Kelman, and A. E. Foster be summoned by next board meeting if they have not removed gorse growing on their road frontages.” overseer’s report. The overseer reported :—“ Contracts; The undermentioned hare been completed since last meeting of the board, viz., No. 1., formation etc., Slack street, Orari V. ; No. 11, shingle repairs, Geraldine Road ; No. 111., shingling Casey’s road, Gapea’s Valley ; No. IV., formation, Proudfoot’s road, Rangitata ; No. V., Formation near racecourse, Orari; Now VI. repairs to side rails of Orari bridges The balance of contracts on hand (No. VII. are making fair progress. Opuha crossing : I have examined the ford at this crossing, and for the present would not advise any expensive work, as the rivet gives indications of settling off from the present cutting. Railway road, reserve 389, Orari: The road applied for to be shingled does not require to be gravelled in places whore shingle ridges cross the road, which is 13G chains in length between the crossings. The cost to shingle the other portion would not exceed £ —. W orks required : The road leading from the cross roads at Cooper’s Fiat towards BelQeld wants shingling for a distance of 70 chains ; a short length of road on the downs near the Waihi Bush requires and repairing. Rijl

bridge : This bridge wants new side rails and piles, and other timber tarring, etc. —I nave, etc..

“ Wm. Shiees.” It was decided to call for tenders for shingling Railway road, Orari. With regard to Cooper’s Flat and Waihi Bush roads and Bae’s bridge the work was ordered to be done, and a fresh supply of drain pipes ordered. DEPUTATION. Mr J. W. Jones, Kakahu Bush, waited on the board in reference to a road to his property, in the Kakahu district. He asked that the road he had made be acquired under the Public Works Act. He would only charge £2 per acre for the land.—After talking the matter over the board decided to instruct the overseer to report on the matter. Mr Batty waited on the board in reference to a crossing over the railway. He had applied to the Railway Commissioners, and Mr Burnett had seen the place and agreed it should be done. Mr Shiers said if the Railway Commissioners agreed the Temuka board would have to pay a share of the expense. Mr Deßenzy said the work was quite necessary. Mr Metcalf said it was the middle of the settlement, and ought to be done. Ho doubt if the Railway Commissioners agreed to it the work would be done. It was decided to apply to the Commissioners of Railways, and also to get the Temuka Road Board to join in the application. ACCOUNTS. It was decided to place a deposit £SOO, failing due on the 19th inst. to current account. Accounts to the amount of £246 15s were passed for payment, and the board adjourned.
