THE GERALDINE FIRE.

Captain Walton, of the Geraldine Fire Brigade, 9has received a letter from Mr Joseph Waite, Addington, giving the men great praise for their promptness in dealing with the late fire at his property in Geraldine. He attributes the safety of the shop and dwelling to the very excellent and zealous manner in which the . brigade carried out their operations. He also states that he has interviewed the manager of the Liverpool and London Globe Insurance Company and laid the matter .before them, and the company, after receiving a report from their agent, on the fire, will probably forward a cheque to the brigade in acknowledgment of their valor and valuable services. Anent the late fire Mr H. W. Moore writea:TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —I trust you will allow me sufficient space to congratulate Captain Walton and his men on the smart way iu which they turned out to the fire iu Geraldine. on Wednesday afternoon. Within five minutes from the time the fireball began to ring they had the engine at work and the water playing on the fire. Considering the circumstances of the men at work, and the distance they had. to come, 1 think yon will agree with me that that is very smart work indeed. Captain Walton has evidently drilled his men to some purpose. I trust these few words wUI not only encourage the members of the fire brigade, but will also encourage the citizens of Geraldine to giye them that support which they have shown they so well deserve. —I am, etc., Henbt W. Moobb. Geraldine, Sept. 13th.

Wo understand that the brigade have handed over the name of a recently created J.P., to the Geraldine Town Board for that body to take proceedings against him in the court. It is alleged at the time of the fire, in spite of the brigade, he drove across the hose, one of the Couplings being considerably damaged in consequence. The damage, of course, iras trivial, but had the hose burst the consequence might have been serious, teeing that the fire was likely to extend to the main building.
