FOOTBALL.
On Monday the weather was wretchedly cold for the match between Now South Wales and Wanganui-Manawatu, but one of the greatest crowds ever seen on the Recreation ground assembled to witness it. The game all through was anything but gentle, but the home team were up to their work, and won by 13 points to nil (2 penalty goals, 1 try, and X goal from a pot). Duncan kicked the two penalties. Ishorwood scored the try, and the pot was landed by Duncan. Well on in the second' half, Branud (New South Wales) had his shoulder hurt and had to retire. The visitors were well treated, and left for Palmerston the same evening. On Saturday last the first fifteen of the Waihi Club journeyed to Totnuka to play the Senior Championship. By some unaccountable blundering of the Rugby Onion the secretary of the Temuka Club never received any notice of the fixture, and as a consequence no game could be played. The Waihi men wandered aimlessly about the streets for a couple of hours, and thou took the 4 o’clock train for Winchester. The Waihi men claim the match, and if this is allowed they stand equal with the Union Club. The following will play for Waihi Football Club against Woodbury Bush Rangers on Thursday at Winchester:—
