TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held in the Town Board office last evening. Present—Messrs Mason (chairman), Coira, Miles, and Storey. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: From the Audit Inspector, covering account for fee, £2. From Messrs Miles & Co., advising re draining pipes forwarded. From MrF. R. Flatman,M-H.R. asking the board to inform him if they wished to advance a sum for labour relief, and get the subsidy offered by the Government, which has been granted to other public bodies.—To be replied !j to, stating that some men had left the district for employment on Mount Cook road. From Timaru Harbor Board, covering plan, which shows the advance made by accumulation of shingle south of breakwater.
From Mr J. T. Smith, surveyor, offering his services, if required by the board. —To be acknowledged, stating that same be left for discussion of the incoming board.
From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, statement of account! and balancesheet for year ended 31st March, 1894. From Geraldine County Council, covering account for second half-yearly payment of harbor rate for current year (£2Q 2s lid) to be paid by the Ist of October.
From the Temuka Fire Brigade, covering account for services rendered at the late fire of the Royal Hotel (£l2 8s). —On the motion of Mr Storey, seconded by Mr Miles j it was unanimously resolved that the same account be passed for payment. BALANCE-SHEETS. Resolved—That the balance-sheets of the Temuka Town Board for the year ending 31st March, 1894, now received from the Auditor-General, be published in the Temuka Leader as usual, viz., one insertion.” overseer’s report.
The overseer’s report on works and contracts carried out during the past month, recommendations of work required, etc., were read and duly considered.
It was resolved that Mr Davis’s request for remuneration for making available approach to shingle pit itom Ewen road cannot be entertained, as all contractors have to find the material supplied to the board. It was further resolved that any further repairs to streets or footpaths would be left for consideration of incoming board; the overseer to have drain crossing Wood street, at junction with Vine street, raised, pipes cleaned and relaid, and waterway north, of same raised with clay to proper level. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £B3 Os 3d, were passed for payment. COMPLIMENTARY. Being the board’s last meeting prior to the coming biennial election on the 19th inst., the chairman (Mr G. J. Mason), made some congratulatory remarks to his confreres as to the agreeable manner in which business had been conducted during his term of office, and that of his absent predecessor, attributable to their able counsel, and agreeable co-operation in carrying out ther public duties. The clerk, treasurer, overseer, &c., was complimented for the satisfactory manner in which his several combined duties (practically and financially) had been conducted, enabling the board to secure full subsidy from Government, owing to all the rates being secured. This concluded the business, and the meeting terminated.
