RANGITATA LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The quarterly meeting of the Rangitata T .inarming Committee was held yesterday at noon in the Geraldine Magistrate’s Court. Present—Messrs G. J. Dennistoun (in the chair), A. White, R. Thew, D. McLean, and J. McQuilkin. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received from the Ashburton County Council approving of the amount to be paid to the Rangitata Licensing Clerk, viz., £ls per annum. The dork read the following table showing the license fees received by the various local bodies in the district and the respective shares of clerk’s salary to be paid by them. f

On the motion of Mr McLean, seconded by Mr McQoilkin, it was resolved that the ffnm stated be paid as salary to the clerk.

OBABI HOTEL. The police reported that during the quarter a temporary transfer had been granted for the Orari Hotel from Samuel Breadley to Timothy Lyons. The reports from other places* are that Mr Lyons is • moot respectable man. The transfer was confirmed. REPORTS.

Constable Willoughby mentioned that the reports of the police all over the district were favorable, and no complaints whatever were made. Sergeant Moller, of Ashburton, wrote that as there was no business to come from bis district ho would not put the country to the expense of his attending the meeting.

TIME OP MEETING, A letter was received from Mr D. Thomas, Ashburton, complaining that, as the committee’s* quarterly meetings were fixed to bo held at noon, the Ashburton members could not attend without being two days from home. _ It was resolved that the time of meeting for quarterly meetings be altered to 3 p.m.; the clerk to adjourn the meetings from noon to that time.

The committee then rose, after passing a vote of thanks to the chairman.
