An ex-schoolmaster named Thomas Scott, who attempted suicide by cutting his throat while suffering from mental depression on July 26th, died of debility at Auckland on Sunday. The wound in his throat never closed or healed. The body of Wi n iam Prince, one of the crew of the sunken fishing yacht Lily, has been found floating off Tararu. Berry's body has not yet been recovered. The third officer of the Mariposa, while superintending the landing of cirgo at Auckland, was struck by a block and tackle on the forehead with great force, and knocked down insensible. He was attended to by the doctor of the ship. A young man named George Piper, was stripping in a quarry at Weston, near Oamaru, on Tuesday, when his foot slipped, and he fell a distance of 30 feet. He received internal injuries from which he died about a quarter of an hour after. He leaves a wife and two children. A marvellous escape from a fatal accident occurred on Monday on the nine mile road near Westport. Michael Leydon was using dynamite at his work. He placed 12 plugs on a sheet of metal and warmed it over the fire. He was removing the dynamite from the fire when it exploded. His face was cut and bruised, and his cheat and eyes were injured, but not seriously. The hat Leydon was wearing was torn to tatters by the force of the explosion, and his shirt, was torn off his shoulders. Leydon ,was taken to the hospital. He did not loose consciousness but suffers from the shock. Blood came from his nose, ears, and mouth. Hi ß sight will probably not suffer, but his hearing is impaired.
