Maintenance Claim. —A rather peculiar case came before the Stipendiary Magistrate at Christchurch. Margaret Pobar made an application against her husband. Francis Pobar, to compel him to pay arrears of maintenance, amounting to :'- l 10s. due on an order made under “ The Destitute Persons A« t 1d07.” It appeared from the evidence that after the order had been in force sonic time defendant instituted divorce proceedings against his wife, and on June 4 obtained a decree nisi. Up to that date defendant had paid all arrears of maintenance, and applicant now sought to make him pay the arrears which had accrued since Juno 4, on the around that until the decree was made absolute she si ill retained her status of a married woman. Applicant admitted that she wa< receiving B.s a week and her hoard and lodging. Tho magistrate therefore ruled that she was not a destitute person within tho meaning of tho Act, aud declined to enforce tho order.
