WINCHESTER SALEYARDS.
The sale at Winchester on Thursday last was very well attended, about 120 farmers and dealers being present. The auctioneer disposed of 3000 sheep, 40 head of cattle, and 110 pigs, at fairly satisfactory rates, considering the condition of the stock offered. At the conclusion of the sale a public meeting was held in the Wolseley Hotel to consider the advisability of holding monthly sales in the Winchester Saleyards. Mr Bland occupied the chair, and about twenty-five farmers and four auctioneers were present. Mr Young offered the present yards, as they stand, free, also a lease of the ground for 6,7, or 10 years for a nominal rental of 20s per annum, conditional on there being 12 ■ales in the year. Proposed by Mr Deßenzy and seconded by Mr Cliff—“ That a company be formed to take over the yards and repair them, the capital to consist of 100 shares of £1 each.”—Carried unanimously. It was resolved that 12 sales be held in the year, and that the number of directors be six. The following gentlemen were appointed provisional directors :—Messrs J. Kelland, W. Deßenzy, J. Scott, Mubin, Donnithorne, and W. Budd. ▲ vote of thanks to the chairman dosed the meeting. At a meeting of the provisional directors Mr W. Deßenzy was elected chairman, and Mr H. E. Smith secretary of provisional directors, the chairman also to act as treasurer. It was resolved that the provisional directors canvass the district for shareholders, and that a meeting of directors be held in the Wolseley Hotel on Monday, August 13th, at 7 p.m. About 50 shares were taken up at the meeting of farmers, and.it is understood that the remaining 50 will be taken up at once.
