EXECUTION OF MURDERERS.
Sydney, July 20. The Barraba murderers were executed at Tamworth to-day. Lee walked to the scaffold aud was apparently indifferent to the fate that awaited him. Cumming, however, was in a fainting condition and had to be wheeled there. This was largely due to the fact that he had attempted suicide early in the morning by opening a vein in his arm with a piece of penknife which he had succeeded in secreting ever Bince his arrest. The deed was only discovered in time to prevent death. Both men died without a struggle. Lee's confession states that Mackay, the murdered man, caught hold of the third man who was with them, named Campbell or Johnson, when the alarm was raised. He refused to release him and Lee then leaned over the counter and shot Mackay. Lee, in his speech from the scaffold, declared that he himself was guilty of murder. Cummings was practically dead before the bolt was drawn.
The confession left by Lee previous to his execution is published. He adheres to his original statement that Mackay was shot accidentally in the struggle.
