AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD

The regular monthly meeting of the above board was held last night. Present —Messrs J. Ashwell (chairman), A. Frew, A. Russell, E. Carr, and E. Brown. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: From the Band and Income Tax Department, covering form of declaration to be filled in by the chairman as to amount of rates collected to end of June to entitle the board to receive subsidy under |the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act, 1885, etc. The clerk to arrange. ovebsebb’s report. ** Sib,—l have the honour to report that during the month repairs have been effected to roads, to Maude street bridge, and to the sheet paling at Ackroyd’s bridge. The cutting on Alexander street has been made up and the water table cleaned. The ford at Hombrook street has been constructed and footpath alongside shingled. The contractor for carting shingle tnu filled up the hollow in the footpath in Maude street, and also improved the footpath next gravel reserve. The work asked for by Mr C. McAuliffe in John street has been duly carried out. I have made an exhaustive statement to the Land Board relative ,to the proposed expenditure of “ thirds/’ and believe the same has been approved.—l have, etc., “A. W. Gaze.” In connection with the report and suggestions made at previous meeting, it was resolved that the overseer be instructed to prepare verifications of work requisite to form portion of Hayhurst Street from Denmark to Alexander Street, and to invite tenders for same by next meeting. He was also instructed to form an estimate of cofct of part formation of "Studholme street in accordance with an application made by Mr C. Story and invite tenders for the work. He was authorised to arrange for the filling up of hollow in Princes street near Mr Manning’s upon terms suggested. It was decided that gorse notices be issued to all offenders, and that failing compliance with formal notice the work be done by the board and any costs recovered by legal process. ACCOUNTS. Sundry accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
