WESLEYAN CHURCH, TEMUKA.

A bazaar in connection with tbe above Church was held on Saturday afternoon and evening in the Volunteer Hall, Temuka. The weather, it will be remembered, was most inclement, and there was consequently but a very moderate attendance in the ; afternoon. In the evening this increased, but those who ordinarily like to purchase from the stalls were absent, and Mesdames Standage, Brown, Holwell, and Gapper, who were in charge of the principal stall, did only a moderate business. Mesdames E. Brown, H. M. Miles, W. Holwell, and Gapper, who bad charge of the refreshment stall, also had similar grounds of complaint, but managed to do fairly well, considering. Misses Every, Brown, and Low had charge of a toy stall, but did not make a very great clearance. These young ladies also assisted at the principal stall. Perhaps the most flourishing business of the day was done by the Misses G. and L. Brown, who disposed of most artistically arranged “ button-holes.” Mr G. Levens did good work at the shooting gallery, but it was absolutely impossible to work up any enthusiasm in the matter of side shows, tugs of • war, etc., although those interested did thejr best. The grain and produce was placed in the hands of Mr John Holwell, and he did remarkably well. The fancy and other goods unsold will be held over until a more favorable occasion, when the ohureh officers hope that the elements will be more favorable. Mr J. Mundell, with his customary kindness, drove out from Timaru, and submitted a lot of miscellaneous produce and goods to auction later in the evening, and all of it was sold at satisfactory priqeg. He was cordially thanked fop his services. It is to be regretted that tbe weather wa* so unpropitious, for the ladies of * v io CQU ' gregation had worked and gathered together * au UUUBUa iiy choice lot °*i.» ÜBe - au d ornamental articles, for v . mch there would in ordinary course have been keen competition.
