GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sib, —Is the proposed splitting up of oar present county of no consequence to the Temuka Road Board district and its ratepayers ? I suppose not, seeing that no one has taken upon themselves to move in the matter, and only a few shots having been fired at random the other day at the last meeting of the board anent the subject. Surely, sir, there must be something wrong somewhere, or our friends both north and south of us would not be so anxious to separate from us. Why the Geraldine and Mount Peel ratepayers payers have such a set on this district I fail to see. I have been here nearly 25 years and do not know that as ratepayers and neighbors we have acted only in a straightforward manner to our northern friends. Are they both frightened we shall want a little of their £BOOO fixed deposits ? If they are, I could almost bet my bottom dollar they are out of it, for, if I am not mistaken, in moving about our district I should have a mighty hard job to find an unformed road ; consequently our own rates are sufficient for our own wants, and I think it is very ungracious to wish to throw us overboard after we having assisted them in years gone by in settling this grand district. Trusting someone in our midst will take the matter up, and throw some light and knowledge into this important subject for our benefit —I am, etc.,
Anxious,
