ORARI-WAIHI WATER-RACE COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above Committee was held on Friday evening, May 4th. Present Messrs Thatcher (chairman), C. Hewson, W. Hewson, and McLean. The chairman stated that the engineer had been up to the head works, and there was a good supply of water now in the district. The engineer had put the ranger on to do some work that was required, and told him to send his account of the same to the council. This the chairman thought ought not to be, as any extra work the ranger did on the races, whether authorised by the engineer or the committee, the account of the same ought to be passed by the committee for payment to the council. It was proposed by Mr C. Hewson, and seconded by Mr McLean ranger be requested to send in the ac count of the time ho has worked at the head works to the committee.” Mr W. 'Hewson moved as an amendment —“ That it be deferred until such time as the committee should hear from the council on the subject.” The proposition was carried. The ranger’s report for the mouth was next considered. It stated that there was a good flow of water in the district, and also that water was wastiugin a plantation in Mr C. Hewson s paddock. Members were of opinion that the course of the race at this point would have to be altered before next summer. The ranger’s monthly salary was passed for payment. This being all the business the committee adjourned until the first Friday in June.
