Aluodell, aumioueer), report on the horse market at Tatici-aiTs on Saturday as follows ; Our entry c uopri -ed 53 burses, 6 dairy cows, iuipleiii- im> . dr..ys, harness, and a large assorJuiem. m sundries, in Lorres a largo proportion of tho entry consisted of young well bred draughts, which sold under keen competition, at prices satisfactory to vendors. Young dairy cows were eagerly competed for. and sold at high prices. Implements, drays, harness, etc., were all sold. Quotations arc ; Horses—Draughts, young and sound, with trial, £lolss, £l6 to £l7 ; do do, unbokreu £l2 to £l4; do aged and light, £7 5s to £8 10s ; light harness sorts, £9 10s to £ll 10s. Dairy cows— £7 15s. £7 5s to £0 10s.
CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. The New Zealand Land Association Limited, weekly market report for week ending April 20th, 1894 Wheat—A better feeling prevails in this market, and a fair amount of business is passing locally both in old and new season’s parcels at full quotations. Holders of really prime quality are not auxisus to quit their stock,. as they are hopihg for better prices ere long. We quota old Tuscan and Pearl 2s 6dto 2s 7d, Hunters 2s 5d to 2a 6d, new crop 2s to 2s 2d, f.0.b., sacks extra. Oats—There is a weaker tone apparent in this cereal, and business is curtailed, owing to Southern competition. Present values are—Prime milling Is 7d to Is Bd, heavy feed ls6d to ls7d, long and ordinary Is 3d to Issd per bushel, f.0.b., sacks extra. Barley—Best malting commands top prices, but stained and feed qualities are slow of sale. Best malting 3s 6d to 4s, medium 2s 9d to 3s 3d, inferior feed Is 9d to 2s delivered. Beans and peas are neglected, and there is little doing. Present quotations—2s 6d to 2s 9d per bushel, f,0,b., sacks extra. Ryegrass—Demand for autumn sowing has now slackened, and quotations are easier. Prime old pasture machine dressed 3s 9d to 4s 3d; farmers’ parcels, 2s 6d to 3s per bushel, delivered. Cocksfoot—Heavy machine dressed 4Jd tosd, undressed original seed 2fd to 3£d per lb delivered, accordidg to quality. MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. London, April 20. The War Office have decided to import 500 tons of compressed fodder from Chicago. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stocks are quoted at 107 J; do, 100 J. New Zealand frozen mutton, first quality, per lbsecond quality, 4d ; market depressed. Lamb, best quality, s*d. Tho New Zealand hemp market is dull. Eighty bales of from. poor to medium quality, from Wellington, sold at £l6 per ton. New Zealand long-berried wheat, exwarehouse, steady, 26s 9d; South Australian wheat, ex warehouse, 27s 9d; Victorian ditto, 27s 3d. A Victorian wheat cargo has been sold at 255. Danish butter, 107 s. April 21. Tallow, medium mutton, 25s ; beef, 245. The English and Continental wheat markets are steady, and the American is unchanged. For forward shipments of Australian wheat on passage and off coast sellers are asking 25s 6d, but buyers refuse to give more than 255. Colonial oats, fine quality, 275; common, 225. Beaus, 30s. Peas, 26s 3d. Colonial butter is unchanged. The butter merchants expect lower prices next season, and say that a reduction of freights by fd or §d will be necessary to pay producers. April 23. The creditors in the estate of Abbot & Oram, New Zealand merchants, agree to accept 20s in the £, the payment to extend over a period of 16 months. Aba meeting of frozen meat importers a committee waa appointed to formulate a scheme and establish an association to regulate supplies of meat in London and control prices. The Orient Steamship Company will not declare a dividend, but carry £32,300 to the reserve fund. Paris, April 23. The city of Paris loan of 200,000,000 fr, at 2i pei’ cent, has been subscribed 85 times. Sydney, April 23. At the annual meeting of the Mutual Life Association of Australasia to-day, the 'report showed a steady increase in business, and that the expenditure had been reduced 4 per cent. The accumulated funds now exceed £1,002,0.0. Tho death claims had been singularly light, Melbourne, April 21. At a meeting of the Metropolitan Bank the report of the committee of investigation stated that any scheme of reconstruction was hopeless. The Premier promises to introduce a provision in the Cheap Money Bill permitting advances to leaseholders. In addition to 5 per cent, interest, 2 per cent, per annum will require to be paid as a sinking fund for the redemption ot the loan.
