COLLISION AT SEA.
Melbourne, April 18, The captain of the Konoowarra states that when he saw the Titania she showed lights, and although at that time a collis"'OH was highly improbable he called the attention bf the second officer to the fact. Later on the second officer suddenly saw the vessel through the darkness bearing right down on the steamer. A passenger confirms the statement that the Titania had no lights. The Konoowarra was put full steam ahead to clear the ship but was struck right amidships. The ship Titania has arrived safely. Two of the Konoowarra’s crew who are on board have only a hazy idea of the whole affair. One asserts that he was picked up by the Titania, after being in the water a quarter of an hour. The captain of the ship does not speak English. The vessel is in charge of an Adelaide pilot, who asserts that lights wore burning on the ship and that he never altered her course. He attributes the disaster to an attempt on the part of the steamer to cross the bows of the ship, and under-estimating the speed of the vessel. The damage to the Titania is estimated at about £BOO, and it will cost about £SOO to repair the Konoowarra. The pilot on board the Titania says that the lights on the ship were burning brightly, and he kept her on her course because it was the steamer’s place to give way.
