PRICE OF BREAD.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I wonder who is having the best of the fun now, the miller or the baker, in the unprecedented low price of wheat and the high price of bread ? or have the two sets of worthies made up their minds to have a good time as long as they conveniently can i What a contented community we are in this district to be sure; we allow ourselves te be had in all shapes and ways, and never utter a poor insignificant murmur. Fancy, Mr Editor, a 2001 b sack of best roller flour for 15a cash, and the baker charging a longsuffering public 6d for a 41b loaf. Is it not to say the least of it, very, very greedy on their part to want and demand from their customers so very mueh more money for their bread than what bakers get in either Christchurch,Dunedin,Timaru, Ashburton, or any other town in the Middle Island 'I Come, bakers ! drop the price of your bread, and bear in mind winter is on us, and work and money is not plentiful. W 3 must live, and bread we must We, but let us have it at a cheaper rate than we have been paying for a long time. You can as well afford to sell bread for 4d and 5d as the bakers in the above-mentioned towns, and then reap a good profit. The above remarks are penned to remind the bakers that they and their actions are not lost sight of altogether, though they may sometimes think so.—l am etc., Dick Whittington.
