IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.
London, April 12, A Bill introduced iu the House of Commons by Mr J. H. Hozier, member for the Southern Division of Lanarkshire, to identify and regulate the sale of foreign and colonial fruit, was thrown out on the motion for the second reading by a large majority. Mr A. J. Muudella, President of the Board of Trado, ridiculed the measure. Three Welsh membeas declined to support the Government since the Evicted Tenants Bill has been given precedence over the question of disestablishment of the Church of Wales. The Naval vote has been agreed to. The new Registration Bill provides for one-man-one-vote and simultaneous polling throughout the Empire. April 14. In the House of Commons during the discussion on the new Registration Bill Sir Henry James declared that under its provisions half a million of ownership voters were disfranchised, and a million of occupation-voters. Mr Balfour complained of the injustice of dealing with an anomaly while matters far worse are loft untouched, Tho Registration Bill was road a first time in the House of Commons to- day. Sir W. V. Harcourt iu announcing in tho House of Commons that a British protectorate would be established iu Uganda, said that this step was essential to the beat interests of the British Empire, a statement that was received with loud cheers. Replying to a question in the House of Commons, Sir William Vernon Harcourt said that no doubt auy attempt to legalise marriage with a deceased wile’s sifttM would be rejected by tho Lords, The Registration B\U reduces tho residence qualification to three mouths, abolishes plural voting and the disqualification of persons who are not ratepayers, and provides that goner.tlelections shall take place throughout the country on tho same day, viz., Saturday.
