ELECTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEES. f pHE Board, in pursuance o! the power in that behalf conferred by “ The Education Act,1877,” and “The School Committees Election Act, 1891 hereby directs that a PUBLIC MEETING of the HOUSEHOLDERS in every School District throughout the Education District of South Canterbury be held on MONDAY, the twenty-third day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-four, at seven o’clock in the evening, for the ELECTION OF A SCHOOL COMMITTEE for such district for the year ending with the fourth Monday in April next year. The number of members to be elected to form the Committee is as follows: —“ Where the average attendance of any school or schools under the Committee of a district has not for the last preceding school year exceeded twentyfive children, five members; where the average has exceeded twenty-five, and has not exceeded two hundred, seven members ; and where the average attendance has exceeded two hundred, nine members.” The place of meeting shall be the schoolhouse in each district, and this is understood to mean the main schoolhouse in any district which has more than one school. At Hakateramea Station the place of meeting shall be the house of Mr D. Maclarlane. The Board further directs that the First Meeting of each School Committee be held in the place appointed for the election, and immediately after the election upon the same evening. The Board further calls upon the householders in each of the Districts to send in to the Chairman of the School Committee, or to the Commissioner of the District if there is no Committee, in writing on or before Monday, April Ifith. the names of persons being resident householders nominated by them for such election to sepve upon the Committee. Such nomination must be signed by the prosposer and by the candidate and must be in the form set forth in the schedule to the Act, or to the elfect thereof. J. H. BAMFIELD, Secretary.
