The English wheat market is firmer, the Continental shows an upward tendency, and the American shows a general advance.
A cargo of Victorian wheat has been sold for 26s IJd. For forward cargoes of Australian wheat sellers are asking 25s 6d, but buyers will not give more than 255. Colonial oats, fine quality 295; common sorts, 23s 3d. Rabbitskins show a general decline of a half-penny. Colonial butter is unahanged. Mr Arthur Harrold, of Adelaide, is forming an Assets Company with a capital of £ 1,000,000 to purchase the properties of the reconstructed banks in Australia. April 9. Seven thousand quarters of Australian wheat, prompt shipment, sold at 25s per quarter. Melbourne, April 9, ’ Experimental cultivation of hemp has been successfully carried out at Bruthen. The product is of splendid fibre, and realised £BO per ton.
