COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL.

A complimentary social was given by the Temuka Rifles last evening in the Drillshed to Lieutenant Findlay on the occasion of his retiring from the corps after 25 years’ service There was an extremely large attendance, amongst those present being Colonel Bailey, Major Young, Sir William and Lady Blunden, Dr. and Mrs Hayes, Captains Jackson (C. Battery, Timaru), Jowsey (Timaru R.Y.), Cutten (Temuka R.V.), Lieutenants Buckingham and Foden (Timaru Rifles), and Lieutenant Whitehead (Temuka R.V.) Close on 100 couples were present. Lieutenant Findlay was presented with a very handsome gold watch chain and a maltese cross suitably inscribed. A full report'will appear in our next issue, the proceedings having been kept up too late to give results in this.
