A SHOCKING CASE.
John M'Kenua has jiut been tried in Scotland fur kicking to death hiß stepdaughter, two years old. The man had deliberately expressed his intention of killing the child So he commenced by breaking its leg with a poker. Then he beat it because, its leg being broken, it could not stand. Next ho dashed its head against the brick iloor, aud followed up this pastime by kicking it round the room aud striking it with a buckled belt. The child thon becamo unconscious and died. A doctor who gave evidence said there wuio so many bruises on tho body that ho did not daro to count thorn. 'I hero was practically \'.t> defence, and Lord Adam:* sentenced the brutal murderer to—seven years' penal sorvitudo! From this it appears quite evident that it is far better to bo a man aud slowly torture a child to death than to be a betrayed girl who in frenzy stops tho breathing of a newborn, babe For the former the. punish-
ment is seven years' penal servitude; for the latter sentence of death mercifully commuted into imprisonment. Exchange. _______^ mmmmmmmm _ mm: AUSTRALIA'S NATIONAL RESTORATIVE. I have tried many cures, but nothing seemed to do me any good. I have spent a lot of money in doctors. At last I was recommended to try Clements Tonic, which I did; I have taken two bottles, and I can truly say I never found any remedy do me as much good ,as Clements Tonic; I would recommend anybody who is suffering from these complaints to try Clements Tonic, and I feel sure it will do them good.—l am, yours truly, A.
