London, March 17. The wool sales closed with spirited competition, and medium and good greasy £d to above opening rates. The total quantity catalogued was 188,400 bales, of which 113,000 were sold for export, and 63,200 for the Home trade. Tallow, medium mutton, 23s ; beef, 245. The English wheat market is heavy and inactive; the Continental depressed; the American betrays a general decline. An Australian cargo of wheat, of March shipment, has been sold at 25s Od. Colonial butter is unchanged. The Rimutaka’s cargo is realising 103 s. March 20. The central Chamber of Agriculture is pressing for the appointment of a special Committee of Parliament to inquire into the adulteration of dairy produce. Paris, March 19. It is believed that the prospect of the introduction of New Zealand frozen mutton into France is poor, owing to the fact that while meat transhipped from London is subject to the maximum tariff, direct shipments nrg admitted under the general tariff. Melbourne, March 19. The Minister of Agriculture estimates tho export of butter next season at 10,000 tons. Capetown, March 19. Warnings have been sent to Australia of the danger of glutting tho market here.
