Sydney, Jan, 10. It was expected that the strikers in the southern collieries would march in a body and try to induce the South Clifton miners to join them. The police, on receiving notice of their intention, formed a guard round the mine, and this apparently had the effect of preventing a demonstration.. Jan, 11.
A conference of delegates from the building trades has been opened. Among the questions to be discussed afe the best method of dealing with the unemployed, and the advisability of holding an intercolonial conference with a view to establishing an Australian Building Trade Union to secure uniformity of hours and combined action of the trade in the event of a strike. The chairman stated that fully 600 men of various trades were unemployed in Sydney, end distress in that city at the present time was appalling..
