The imports into Great Britain doting 1893 show a decrease of £18,800,000, and the exports a decrease of £8,600,000. Tallow, medium mutton, 275; beef, 265.

The English wheat market is changing a little for the worse, while the Continental is changing a little for the better. The American market has an upward ten-

dency. For Australian wheat on passage sellers are asking 28s 6d, but buyers will not give more than 28s. For Australian wheat, new crop, early shipment, sellers want 295, but buyers refuse to give more than 28s 6d. The butter committee has made no change in prices. Jan. 8. The English Scottish and Australian Bank intends to introdue a Bill in the Imperial Parliament enabling that institution to pay its creditors interest f>r the period of suspension. Sir Andrew Clark, acting AgentGeneral for Victoria, is urging the Imperial Institute to sell Victorian wines. The scheme for the reconstruction of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company will not be ready for the satutory meeting of| the company, to be held to-morrow.

Sir Westby Perceval is about to discuss with Messrs Weddell, Nelson, and Black, the Queensland agent, the prospect of promoting a direct trade in New Zealand frozen mutton with Germany. Melbourne, Jan. D.
